ACCRA, Ghana (AP) — Ghana has forcibly deported hundreds of people fleeing violence from Burkina Faso, the United Nations refugee agency said Thursday. Approximately 251 people were expelled, most of them women and children seeking safety in northern Ghana, according to UNHCR. “It’s not a voluntary repatriation,” Alpha Seydi Ba, senior communications officer for UNHCR, told The Associated Press.In a statement Wednesday, the UN called on Ghana to cease these expulsions “and guarantee access to the territory and asylum to nationals of Burkina Faso seeking international protection.” Under international human rights law, the principle of non-refoulement guarantees that no one should be returned to a country where they would face torture, cruel or degrading treatment, or punishment. Appeals court orders new congressional lines in New York, a potential boon for Democrats

(AP) — A mid-level state appeals court on Thursday ordered new congressional lines be drawn for New York, a ruling that could benefit Democrats in the 2024 fight for control of the U.S. House.The Appellate Division of the state Supreme Court reversed a lower court and directed a state redistricting commission to start work on new proposed state congressional lines. Democrats are supporting the lawsuit, which seeks to scrap the 2022 lines in New York under which Republicans flipped four congressional seats.Republicans quickly pledged to take the politically charged case to New York’s highest court.“On to the Court of Appeals,” former Republican Rep. Farmers forced to dump excess milk due to oversupply

CHICAGO (NewsNation) — There's no shortage of milk in the U.S. these days. In fact, there is so much of it that farmers are being forced to get rid of it. The issue at hand is that milk is a daily commodity. Whether there's a demand for it or not, the cows have to be milked. If a cow is not milked, it could cause bruising, sickness and even death.Once the milk is collected, it must be transported to a dairy facility for processing.However, now there's too much milk and it's forcing farmers to dump it because the facilities can't keep up with the demand and have run out of space to store the milk.The processing plants are dealing with labor shortages, especially on the weekends, which means there's less production of milk products.In the upper Midwest, the demand for milk is down 20% this year.
